I saw recently that Marcy Playground released a new album. The first, riding on the waves of the single “Sex and Candy,” was abysmal and their live performance wasn’t any better.

Fastball did a decent job convincing me that they were worth the price of admission. Fastball is one of those bands that I can always listen to, but I’ll admit it took years after this show before I gave their studio album a try.

Flaming Lips were scheduled to headline, but disappeared off the bill the day before the show. Local band Kickin’ Harold was added to the bill, albeit as the opener, as a result.
We left before we got to thoroughly enjoy a full set from Everclear (this show was a precursor to my faithfully documented inability to sit through festival-style shows), but if I had known that Everclear would have settled somewhere in my cd collection with their next few albums, I probably would have stayed.
Therefore, most of the enjoyment had to be derived from catching Fastball. They did a decent job convincing me that they were worth the price of admission (especially since Marcy Playground and Kickin’ Harold were mediocre.) Fastball is one of those bands that I can always listen to, but I’ll admit it took years after this show before I gave their studio album a try.
