David Ball Jack Murphy Stadium, San Diego, CA

Posted by Andrew on 7th February 1995 in Country

David Ball opened with a 45-minute set that was pretty standard country fare. That said, his self-titled album was serviceable and while he didn’t have a full stadium to play to, he made the most of it.

The Tractors Jack Murphy Stadium, San Diego, CA

This was the Tractors debut performance under that moniker. The band was made up of veterans of the country music scene, who had a massive hit with “Baby Likes to Rock It” (like a boogie woogie choo choo train, that is) and they have stayed the Tractors ever since.

Brooks & Dunn were quintessential pop-country (them and Reba) and this was the one and only country concert I ever attended. I got into country music because of my college roommate and when we stopped living together, my romance with country music ended abruptly. But it was fun while it lasted. I still have a special (albeit miniscule) place in my heart for Waiting On Sundown and Reba’s Read My Mind (and her covers album the next year Starting Over.)

It helped that Brooks & Dunn are heavy on harmonies and that they covered my favorite Eagles song “Best of My Love.” The show was fun, and educational. Cowboys and cowgirls are shameless exhibitionists.
